Frankfurt Göçmen Kadınlar Birliği‘nin Bibliothek der Alten projesiyle birlikte müze ve göç üzerine daha fazla düşünmeye başladım. Bu süreçte aklımı sürekli kurcalayan en temel soru da “göç hikâyeleri müzelerde nasıl sergilenmeli?” Göç hikayesi derken sadece bireyin bir ülkeden diğerine göç etmesini mi anlamalıyız, yoksa ev sahibi ülkede kurulan yaşam düzeni de bu hikayenin bir parçası mı? Bunları düşünüp, bu konuyla ilgili okumaların peşinde koşarken University of Leicester’ın Museums Alive! konferans çağrısını gördüm.
Since I have been working on Frankfurt Migrant Women Association‘s Bibliothek der Alten project, I have started to think more about museum and migration. The fundamental question that I’ve been tackling with is “how should migration stories be presented in museums?” When we say migration should we only include stories of migration from one country to another, or should we also cover their life established in receiving countries? I have already been thinking about these issues and doing some readings when I saw the call for applications of Museums Alive! conference at the University of Leicester.
4-5 Kasım tarihlerinde 2 gün sürecek disiplinlerarası postgraduate konferansı School of Museum Studies tarafından, Migration Museum Project (Göç Müzesi Projesi) iş birliği ile düzenleniyor.
Frankfurt Göçmen Kadınlar Birliği’nin Bibliothek der Alten Projesi’ni anlatacağım sunumda, kadınlarla yürüteceğimiz çalışmalardan bahsedeceğim, göç temasının müzelerde nasıl ele alındığını ve bizim çalışmalarımızla bu sergileme yöntemlerini nasıl geliştirebileceğimizi tartışacağım. Bu çalışmanın göçmenlerin kendilerini anlatacakları bir proje olarak oldukça önemli bir emsal teşkil ettiğini düşünüyorum. Dışarıdan bir yorumlama olmadan, özgürce kendilerini ifade ediyorlar. Bibliothek der Alten’de yer alan diğer göç temalı projelerden daha fazla örneklerle zenginleştireceğim sunumun bilgilendirici olacağını umuyorum.
A two-day interdisciplinary postgraduate conference on 4 – 5 November is hosted by the School of Museum Studies, University of Leicester, in partnership with the Migration Museum Project.
In my presentation, I’ll talk about the Bibliothek der Alten Project by the Frankfurt Migrant Women Association then will discuss how migration is perceived in museums as a theme, and how we can develop new exhibition styles in our project. I find this project exemplary as it gives migrant women a platform to talk about themselves without any intervention from outside. I hope my presentation, including more examples from migration themed projects by Bibliothek der Alten, will become informative.
