Why so personal dramatic stories? — A short discussion on exhibiting migration and gender around “the 30 KG” #BerlinGlobal #exhibitionbuzzy

It definitely needs a particular post to discuss how and why not to design an exhibition on migration and gender by bringing together several unrelated topics along with long texts, but I keep the discussions around a general and crucial question for this post: Why so drama? — Why can’t we discuss migrant and refugee women’s years-long fighting and achievements in Berlin?

A catchy title, but is it appropriate? — Pre-Visit Comments on “30kg” Exhibition at Berlin Global

As it is stated on the “30 kg” exhibition opening invitation website, “Göç, değişimdir: Değişitirendir – Migration is a change: Migration changes [x].” But can we easily apply a symbolic narration of a particular ethnic minority deported from Turkey to all migration stories?

Bir ihtimal daha var, o da ICOM 2022’ye katılabilmek mi yoksa mesleki fanus mu dersin?

Geçenlerde, mesleki bir buluşmada bahsi geçtiğinden beri düşünüyorum; 20-28 Ağustos tarihleri arasında Prag’da yapılacak ICOM 2022’ye katılabilmek bazı müzeciler için ekonomik bir soru işareti, ancak bu hiçbir üyenin tekil sorunu değil – çünkü sistem. Kaç kurum salgın ve savaş sonrası dalgalı bulutlu seyreden global ekonomik koşullar altında çalışanlarının mesleki gelişimini destekleyecek bütçe ayırabiliyor? Kaç serbest çalışan, kültür-sanat pazarlarının darlığı ve pasta paydaşlarının çokluğu da göz önüne alındığında, yıllık kazancından konferans için bütçe arttırabiliyor?

The Art of Narrating Mobility: “Exile Is A Hard Job”

I was visiting Cologne for the weekend, and visiting Nil Yalter’s exhibition was highly recommended by a friend of mine living in the city. The welcoming statement explains simply her enthusiasm: “The Exile Is A Hard Job”; a quote from Nâzım Hikmet—the famous poet born in Turkey and died in exile, in Moscow.
